Tips || Instructions for a bad day

Bad days, we've all had them. It's easy to forget that whatever you are doing today will (most likely) be over tomorrow.

I just discovered Shane Koyczan, he is a spoken word artist. And I think his work is truly amazing. The first thing I heard was this piece called "instructions for a bad day", and I thought to myself; well, you better bookmark this because this will get you through your off days.

So this brought be to an idea, why not write a blogpost about what gets me through bad days?! And maybe help some people out ;)!

Forgetting all about the bad day you're experiencing to me is remembering all the positive aspects of life. I made up a list, as a reminder for myself, on how to stay positive and get through tough days.

1. Music. Music is key too everything in life, whether you're experiencing the best day of your life or the worst day in the existence of your time planet earth. Try to surround yourself with uplifting music. The best kind that works for me is corny 90'/00' music.

2. Friends. An important big thing is to remember your friends. Go out for a drink, go shopping or just simply stay home and talk or watch a movie. My friends tend to be the best therapists and I'm so grateful for having them. If you don't have that kind of support I suggest going online, there are tons of forums/websites with people that share your interests and would love to hear about your day.

3. Creativity, is my third point. I love doodling, I know I'm horrible at it but it helps me get my mind off of things. Whether it's music, art, writing or something else that could keep you busy: just do it!

4. Spirituality. If you have a religion you could pray. I view it as a type of therapy as well, it gives you the feeling that there is more out there than just this world and this life you're living. Another thing you could do is meditate. During my last internship I discovered Lee Harris and his words are so soothing. He has this "7 days of peace" audio project that focuses on a different aspect of your life every day of the week. And the best thing is: these sessions are only 10 minutes long! Another audio that you could listen to is called "Mental Health" by Yrsa Daley-Ward,

5. Yourself. Last but not least, take care of yourself. Don't ware yourself out or push yourself to the limit. I tend to forget myself when I'm experiencing a bad day. Go take a nap if you need to, that project that's due soon can wait a couple hours. Do something that makes you happy and don't think about the consequences. Take time to think, be selfish and remind yourself that it's okay to have  a bad day. Because everybody has them once in a while and everybody has really good ones as well. Remember: This too shall pass.

Oh and please remember to breathe!
